Nebraska Lit up with Lasers

Beams of pure light shot across the entirety of downtown Lincoln as people of all ages looked up and imagined the majesty of Nebraska as displayed on the capital with lasers. It was impossible to take your eyes of the capitol as it was lit up with rainbow colored light. The first time in my life I had ever seen the capital dark was immediately interrupted by the stroboscopic rainbows coming from the lasers outlining the capital. The actual light show is almost impossible to describe as you could hear the resounding “Ooooh”’s and “Ahhh”’s from the crowd and the delighted screams of children not even caring about the 100’s of people watching and appreciating the majesty of what is going on.

The pure scope of people that showed up is actually quite astounding. You got to see all the different types of people that live and occupy Nebraska. This really showed the things that brought us as Nebraskans together and something that is truly important to Nebraska. Football. What would a presentation of Nebraska be without adding football in, even though that’s a touchy subject now as well. But in Nebraska football brings people together even if it’s just to tell them that one team is better than the team that they cheer for. Just seeing the scope and variety of people there showed something that not many people think about or realize when talking about Nebraska and that is that most people are proud to either be from or be living in Nebraska. It is an interesting thing in that you would be hard pressed in certain states to find that many people that were proud of where they are.

By sitting there with all the other fellow Nebraskans you could actually feel a sense of community, there was something that tied us all together and put us there to just be there. Maybe it was the fact that the only non-Nebraskan thing about the whole ordeal where the company who was putting on the laser show. The locals included the band, the food, and the people who were there themselves. The band being local may have actually been a good thing as they felt like they were actually from the area, because they actually were from the area. This led to a easy going tone coming from the whole event and that was helped by just everyone there having a common sense of comradery from just the simple fact of where they are.

  1. I like the way you describe the laser’s light as “stroboscopic”. It was much better than simply telling the audience the laser’s light was colorful.
I can really tell the feeling of the people who were there through your writing. You have a strong connection between the lasers event to football and how it helps to bond the Nebraskan people together as a community.
I love the fact that you include how strong the community of people here among some of the states. That really shows your spirit of being a Nebraskan and how people from Nebraska different from other states.
Overall, great job on describing the event, I really see your intention of wanting people to see this event. I there a chance, I would love to take a look of this event.

  2. You had a lot of great description in the first paragraph and it was neat to picture in my mind. I like how as your writing went on you talked about Nebraska football and how its a touchy subject now. Reading that as a Husker fan makes me realize how much that element affects our community of Lincoln.
