Looking Back, Looking Forward

Looking Back, Looking Forward

While you are doing something you often fail to pay attention to what is happening to you or around you. I would say that very few people would consider school the most fun part of their day or even a fun part of their day, but as I look back over the past four years I can confirm that it isn’t near as bad as some people made it out to be and that there were even parts that I would consider enjoyable. I would like to think that being a senior and graduating would give me a bit of knowledge about the school, and an actual idea of where I want to go from here.

There have been many moments in my time here that I would say were good to have. I would say one of the moments where I learned something was I realized that high school doesn’t really define who you are or who you are going to be in the future, that doesn’t mean disregard how you act in high school, that would just be dumb. One of the other biggest things that I would say that I learned was that most of what you learn is actually there to benefit you and to serve you to the best of the ability of the school. Looking back on this I can see that many of the things that were offered here were not fully taken advantage of.

The biggest piece of advice that I can give to the younger people is to use your teachers as resources. They are there to help you and to serve you so you would be doing yourself a disservice if you don’t use them. It is part of their job to be there and assist you if you are having troubles, and they really aren’t as scary as you may think that they are. Also, the biggest thing to take away or to do is to stop procrastinating when you don’t have to. While sometimes procrastinating is useful, more often then not you just end up shooting yourself in the foot by putting the work off and then you only do half as good of a job as if you did it in smaller time periods leading up to the due date. But, if there is one thing to take away is that choosing your friends wisely will help you and the people around you tremendously as you may enjoy coming to school as you get to see and be around people that you enjoy.

One verse that I have kept near my mind through my High School time is Proverbs 16:3 “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans“. I have always remembered this verse simply to remind myself that no matter what my plans are if they line up with God’s plan and I place my trust in him they will succeed. I just kinda turned to this verse anytime that times seemed a bit shaky or I didn’t really understand what was going on or why I would just remember that my plans where not in my hands they are in God’s much more capable hands.

I think that the biggest thing that I will take away from Lincoln Lutheran is the fact that we still have a support group within our class, we are all still close enough to each other and spent more hours with each other in the seven years at Lincoln Lutheran than many people spend with some family members. So I guess what I am trying to say is that the people that you get involved with past this point should reflect what you believe and stand for just as the people here did, this will allow you to become closer to those people while not forgetting where you roots came from.
